eBay expansion – but not in D15

The current shortage of office accommodation in the Dublin 15 area has lead one of the area’s largest employers to look outside the area for offices to expand its current operation. The PayPal HQ in Blanchardstown

Online auction giant eBay is at present seeking new offices to allow for the expansion of its PayPal subsidiary.

eBay is currently based in the Blanchardstown Corporate park, while PayPal, which was originally based there now operates out of Atrium office complex beside the Blanchardstown Centre.

As a result of the continuous expansion of the PayPal service, the company is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks to source additional office space and provided it receives the go-ahead for this expansion from its US management, the new offices are likely to be in operation by the summer.

It is understood that local management are seeking for a building of up to 100,000 square feet, which would allow for the creation of up to 500 new jobs.

An eBay spokesman said the company itself had no immediate plans for an expansion of this scale. However, the additional capacity could be designed for a significant expansion of the PayPal operation.

PayPal established its international headquarters in Dublin 15 in 2003. Last year, it announced a further expansion, taking its total number of employees to 1,200 in Blanchardstown. Informed sources have suggested that the new office is likely to be located in the Santry/Swords area, as there are no suitable buildings currently ready for occupation in Dublin 15.
