“Holey Trinity” golf classic

Last year St. Mochta’s parish fundraising committee held their first Golf Classic featuring the ubiquitously named “Holy-hole in-one” . The big attraction of the event was the prize of a new Mercedes sports car for anyone who managed to achieve a hole in one.Pictured at the launch of the St Mochta’s golf classic are (L-R): Fr. Nobody succeeded in driving away in the Merc so this year the committee have decided to go one step further. The 2008 event in Luttrellstown Castle Golf & Country Club will feature a so-called “holey Trinity” of prizes for anyone who can achieve a hole in one.

This year the chances of winning have been trebled and as well as offering a Mercedes car for a hole in one on the 6th hole, the prize for a similar feat on the 15th will be a luxury Caribbean cruise, while the lucky golfer achieving a hole in one on the 4th will win family membership of the club for a year.

This year’s event, which takes place on Thursday April 10th, has also been extended to include a Pro-Am event which will feature 26 of the top professionals in Ireland.

There will be two shot gun starts. The first in the morning at 9.00 a.m. will be open to teams of four players, while the afternoon session will start at 2.00 p.m. and will offer the opportunity to teams of three to play with one of the professional players.

Cost of entry is €700 for a team of 4 for the morning session (including lunch), while the afternoon session is priced at €1,500 for a team of 3 (including dinner).

All proceeds of the event will go towards the cost of the new Porterstown Parish Pastoral Centre on which work is well underway and is expected to be finished by the summer.

According to Fr. John Daly PP, “the cost of the building is around €1.2 million and we have raised €700,000 to date. While the building will be self financing on a day to day basis, we will be raising €500,000 by way of a bank loan and events such as this will help to pay off that loan.”

Anyone wanting to take part in a great day’s golf can contact Fr. John Daly 01 821 3218 or Eileen Ring 086 804 1342.
