Sports campus development progressing well

The recent move by the FAI into its new headquarters at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown marks the beginning of an exciting new development for the Dublin 15 area.

The project is being overseen by the National Sports Campus Development Authority which is also based in Dublin 15 – in offices at Westend on the Snugboro Road.Map of the proposed sports campus development in Abbotstown

Speaking to Community Voice, David Conway, Development Manager with the Authority said “the intention is that this initiative will provide top quality facilities for sports people and is a reflection of the Government’s strong commitment to the development of sport in this country. Sport and participation in sporting activities is a vital ingredient in the social life of any country. Top class facilities are essential for success at the highest level.”

As well as providing top class sports facilities for a wide range of sporting disciplines, the new campus will also consist of office facilities for a range of different sporting bodies such as the Football Association of Ireland which has already moved into purpose built offices on the site.

According to David “the pace of activity on the Campus will accelerate in 2008 and design and project management teams are in the process of being appointed. As the new facilities come on stream the Campus will develop into a centre which will reflect well on the country and on the local area.”

David is also anxious to highlight one element of the campus that is already up and running successfully – the National Aquatic Centre. “This facility has attracted a certain degree of controversy,” he says, “but the fact is that it is a superb facility, which matches the highest international standards and is available to the local community.

I would urge people to come and see it for themselves, they will not be disappointed.”
