Members of the community, both young and old, attended the celebratory event which highlighted the tremendous work of the Mulhuddart Community Youth Project and the commitment and energy of the young people, staff and volunteers involved.

The celebration included numerous guest speakers, a presentation of certificates of achievement to local people and the launch of the new publication by the guest of honour Minister of State, Pat Carey TD.

Established in 2001, the youth project helps the young people to become involved in activities and social events aimed at enhancing their personal development and helping them to contribute to the growth and development in their community.

Speaking at the event, Ray Devlin, Assistant Director of Foròige said, “We try to fulfil the overall purpose which is to enable young people in the area to involve themselves in the development of their own lives and society,

“Mulhuddart Community Youth Project had a small beginning, but this laid a foundation for the tremendous success it is now,” he said.

His words were echoed by Jim McVeigh, County Youth Development officer of the county Dublin VEC who said, “this project is one of the most significant in the county, if not the country, in that it has provided the template for the model of youth provision that has become known as the ‘Mulhuddart Model’,

“Working together in this way will guarantee that the young people receive the best service possible and our funding is spent effectively,” he said.

Other speakers included two of the youth project participants Dean Burke and Rosanne Byrne who spoke of their experiences.

Youth Officer, Niamh Quinn then presented certificates to a number of participants in the project, following which Minister Pat Carey performed his official duties in formally launching the ‘youth@thecentre’ publication.

According to the Minister, “looking at the wide range of youth programs available here at the centre is inspiring. It’s all part of a collaborate effort aimed at empowering communities and enriching people’s lives. Long may you enjoy this beautiful facility.”
