award for Blanchardstown Youthreach One of Dublin 15’s most successful youth projects, Blanchardstown Youthreach, was recently awarded the gold level standard Health Quality Mark at a reception in the Department of Education and Science. The
Awards were made by Sean Haughey TD, Minister of State in that department.
The Health Quality Mark is an initiative of the National Youth Health Programme (NYHP) organised by the National Youth Council of Ireland. While the award was made to a number of youth organisations throughout Ireland, only three of these – including the Blanchardstown project - received the Gold Standard Award. The award acknowledges the work of youth organisations which have achieved a high standard of quality in promoting health across their organisation including young people, staff and volunteers. According to Lynn Swinbourne, Health Promotion Coordinator of the NYHP, “a set of specific criteria must be met in order to achieve a certain standard of quality. “These
criteria are based on best practice in health promotion at a regional,
national, international level. Most of these criteria have been adapted
from criteria developed by the World Health Organisation for its Health
Promoting Schools Initiative and adapted by the NYHP,” she said.
