Employers
working across cultures
Over
40 employers and managers from some of the big multinational companies
operating in Dublin 15 attended the recent Employer’s Breakfast
and Training Workshop organised by Local Employment Service (LES) in
partnership with the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown in the LINC
Centre on the ITB campus.
Supported by the Meitheal Project the workshop entitled “Working
effectively across cultures”, was aimed at employers who have
a multi-cultural workforce or client base and focused on looking at
intercultural communications in the workplace.
According to organiser Paula Murray of the LES, “we were targeting
employers who are working with new communities. We hoped to assist them
with supports for working with their new employees and to train them
in dealing with cultural and communication difficulties in the workplace.”
The main workshop was hosted by Donal Lynch from Impact Global Training
Company and this was followed by a presentation from Nathalie Cazaux
of ITB.
Following the workshop, employers were given the opportunity to network
with representatives of local services of interest to their workforce.
These included the National Qualifications Authority Ireland, Blanchardstown
Adult Education Service, Baptec Computer Training, Blanchardstown Area
Partnership, Learning at Work Project, LES/Joblink and ITB.
Blanchardstown LES provides a free recruitment service to local employers
and intends to hold more training workshops of interest to employers
in the future with the support of Area Partnership.
