| First aiders wanted This
year’s annual general meeting of the Dublin 15 branch of the Irish
Red Cross heard details of the huge growth in demand for the local first
aiders over the course of the past year. Speaking to Community Voice after the meeting, Unit PRO Kevin O’Brien explained that the number of duties carried out by the unit in the past twelve months had grown to 60 from the previous year’s total of 17. “This huge growth has meant that we need new members so we are launching a new volunteer recruitment campaign to meet this demand for our services,” he said. Among the duties carried out over the past year has been attendance at recordings of the RTE programme “The Panel” in Draíocht as well as providing first aid cover at horse racing meetings, kick boxing competitions and community based family days. “Since we got our new ambulance last year we have been able to offer a much higher level of service,” said Kevin A knowledge of first aid is obviously useful for anyone joining but absolute novices are also welcome. According to Kevin “new recruits will be offered first aid instruction up to the level of emergency medical technician and even up to instructor level if they wish”. The
unit meets every Wednesday night in the Blanchardstown Youth Service
premises in Blanchardstown Village. Anyone looking for further information
can contact Kevin tel. 087 2122604 or e-mail d15dutiesirc@gmail.com.
