Minister
praises work at Coolmine Lodge
The success of the Coolmine Therapeutic Community assisting clients
to overcome their dependence on drugs and alcohol was underlined recently
when Pat Carey TD, Minister of State with responsibility for the National
Drugs Strategy visited the centre on Grove Road.
Established in 1973, Coolmine provides a comprehensive range of services
designed to support and empower individuals and communities who are
affected by alcohol and drugs.
According to the Minister “there is no doubt that the participation
of voluntary organisations, such as Coolmine Therapeutic Community,
is central to the implementation of the National Drugs Strategy.
“Through the supports offered to those recovering from drug misuse
in the men’s residential services at Coolmine Lodge, the women’s
residential services at Ashleigh House, the day programme at Lord Edward
Street and outreach and induction programmes, Coolmine continues to
have a real impact on the delivery of the strategy,” said the
Minister.
Originally modelled on one of the UK based Phoenix House "concept
houses", the Coolmine Therapeutic Community subsequently developed
strong links with renowned Daytop Village in the United States.
Coolmine is now a highly regarded member of the World Federation of
Therapeutic Communities and has also developed strong links with many
other similar organisations within the European Federation of Therapeutic
Communities.
