€200,000 for local groups

20 local community groups and schools in the Dublin 15 area have been approved for grant aid under the RAPID Additionality Dormant Accounts Fund administered by the Department of Community Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs. In total local groups received €199,639 from the fund in this year’s allocation.

Among the groups benefiting from the grants are the Mulhuddart Taekwon-Do club who received a grant of €3,000 to purchase equipment and provide additional coaching hours for members, while the Tolka River Environmental Alliance (TREA), which has been heavily involved in environmental projects on the River Tolka will receive €8,000 for the development of a network of fishing clubs and purchase of badly needed equipment.

Among the schools to receive grants are Scoil an Ceathrar Álainn in Ladyswell School who received a grant of €10,000 for the conversion of an existing building into a parents and children’s activity room.

Gerry Murray, who represents the Mulhuddart area as a community representative on the local board of RAPID welcomed the announcement of the grants saying ‘’these funds will provide a much needed cash boost to small groups in Mulhuddart and across the RAPID area who provide essential services and activities to local communities’’.

Kevin Quinn, Information Officer with the Blanchardstown Centre for the Unemployed (BCU) who is also the Corduff community representative on the board was particularly pleased at the decision to make a grant of €15,466 to the BCU. “This additional funding is very welcome as it will enable us extend our mobile information service to cater for more people in the area,” said Kevin.

Other major beneficiaries were Blanchardstown Area Partnership which received two grants totalling €53,260 for community security projects. Corduff Community Resource Centre received €16,741 for refurbishment works at the centre and the FAI were awarded €9,557 for sports projects with disadvantaged young people in the area.

RAPID is a government programme established to channel resources and to improve services in designated areas across the state. Since December 2004, over €21m has been committed to key infrastructural and community based services in the Blanchardstown RAPID area which covers parts of Blakestown, Corduff, Mountview and Mulhuddart.
