Phibblestown schools now enrolling pupils

Co. Dublin VEC have certainly hit the ground running since it was announced that they were to establish a number of new schools in Dublin 15 including, for the first time in this country, new primary schools.

The first of these schools will be Scoil Ghráinne, to be known as a Community National School and it will open next September on the same site as the new Phibblestown Community College.

According to a spokesperson for the VEC, “Scoil Ghráinne will be inclusive of all religious beliefs and recognise, in as far as possible, the wishes of parents to have their children receive instruction in religion and faith formation. The school will acknowledge and respect the diversity of values, beliefs, languages and traditions in Irish society and operate in a spirit of partnership between patron, teachers, students, parents and the wider community served by the school.”

Perhaps even more importantly the spokesperson stressed that ”Scoil Ghráinne is committed to a high standard of education where each child is helped to reach his/her personal potential.”

Parents seeking to enrol their children in the junior infants class for next September can get application forms and further information from Lorraine Thompson, County Dublin VEC, 1 Tuansgate, Belgard Square East, Tallaght, Dublin 24 (Tel. 01 4529600). Application forms can also be downloaded from the County Dublin VEC website www.codubvec.ie

All completed forms and all relevant documentation must be submitted by the March 14th.

Meanwhile the new Phibblestown Community College is also still accepting enrolments to first year for September 2008. Ms. Eileen O’Rourke has recently been appointed as principal of the new college. Ms. O’Rourke was previously deputy principal of Castleknock Community College and as a result is very familiar with second level student needs generally in the Dublin 15 area.
