Large
turnout at Castleknock GAA Grounds information meeting
A landmark day for the Castleknock GAA club moved a step closer when
well over 200 Castleknock members and parents attended the meeting to
provide information on the new ground. At the meeting held at Castleknock
Golf and Country club, Mick Lynch, Castleknock club chairman welcomed
everyone and spoke about the club’s great success over the last
10 years on the pitch.
The next step, he said was to push ahead with the development of the
new playing facilities. Vivian Peelo of the grounds development committee
gave an excellent presentation on progress to date in relation to planning
and advised those present that the Castleknock club now has full planning
permission for three pitches, a clubhouse and car parking.
He explained the costing of the different phases of the project and
he advised that the club was near finalising the appointment of the
contractor for Phase 1.
Michael Maher, grounds finance committee, then went on to outline the
funding option with particular focus on tax efficient donations. A survey
of all present was taken to gauge the level of financial support from
club members and parents. A strong financial commitment was indicated
from all present and gave the grounds’ committees a strong mandate
to go forward and develop the grounds.
All families will be written to in the next month to outline the phases
of the development and to explain how the tax efficient donations scheme
works.
A formal cutting of the sod will take place on Monday 28th April when
An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahearn and Minister Brian Lenihan will visit the
new club grounds.
