St. Brigid’s GAA Nursery launches 2008 Calendar

The St Brigid’s GAA Club is located in Russell Park off the Navan Road behind the Esso garage and adjacent to the new Phoenix Park Railway station. This thriving club provides its members with a wide range of facilities including Ireland’s finest All Weather Pitch.Mol an Óige – some of the St.Brigid’s nursery’s participants The club always welcomes new members from the Castleknock and Blanchardstown areas. If you are new to this area joining a club like St. Brigid’s is a great way to meet people and make new friends.

One of the longest established sections within the club is the St. Brigid’s Nursery which runs all year round just taking a break during the primary school holidays. Its principal aim is to introduce children of school going age to Gaelic Games in a structured and fun environment by:

introducing the child to the skills of hurling and football
preparing the child to participate at competitive or recreational level as a player
producing players who have a basic command of all fundamental playing skills.
developing the balance, co-ordination and footwork of the players

The ethos of the Nursery is ‘skills with fun’. In order to ensure that this ethos becomes a reality the following guidelines are applied to the hurling and football sessions:

Groups are divided by age, but in order to ensure that children are comfortable within groups, skill levels are taken into account when dividing groups

Parents of children are encouraged to be present at all times to support their children during the nursery sessions.

Children with special needs are included and, where possible, guidance sought from the parents on appropriate activities and helpers appointed specifically to help these children

A typical nursery session consists of :
a warm-up
skill development practices
a games (e.g. bull dog, duck duck goose etc)
a cool-down encouraging children to slowly recover from exercise and to calm down where necessary!

St Brigid’s GAA is continuing to develop its facilities and the final phase of the current development plan in the club will see the upgrading of the existing community facilities to include new changing rooms, offices, meeting rooms, kitchen, new club shop and function rooms which will cater for all community activities

To help busy parents plan ahead the Nursery has just released its calendar of events for 2008. Highlights include:
