Massive extension for Town Centre

As reported last year in Community Voice, Green Property, owner of the Blanchardstown Centre, has now formally confirmed its intention to carry out a major extension to the centre with an application to Fingal County Council for planning permission for the project.Yellow car park – site of the new Town Centre extension

The application seeks permission to demolish the entrance pavilion to the yellow mall and the removal of the existing 380 car parking spaces in the yellow car park. On the resulting site, it is proposed to build a three storey extension to the centre totalling 32,082 m² (almost 350,000sq. ft.).

The centre-piece of this extension will comprise a massive 120,000 sq. ft. retail store, spread over the three storeys, for which a number of exisiting tenants are already jockeying for position. However it is understood that at least one other major UK based retailer is also interested in securing this new store.

The remainder of the development will comprise 17 additional smaller retail units opening onto a new mall, together with up to eight new restaurants which will open onto the street outside. There is also a proposal for a food court.

The existing 380 surface car parking spaces will be replaced with 749 spaces in two new underground levels of car parking.

A number of alterations to the existing road network around this part of the centre are also proposed in the planning applictaion. These include the provision of a new revised signal controlled crossroads incorporating pedestrian crossings to replace the existing roundabout near the former Budabar.

A new road is also proposed from this location to connect with the Blanchardstown Road South. Access to and from the new underground car park will be off this new road which will cut through the exisiting car park at Retail Park 2.

The company are also submitting an Environmental Impact Study to the planning authority as part of the planning application.
