Fine
Gael gears up for local elections
The local Fine Gael party is already gearing up for next year’s
local elections with the selection of two official area representatives
for the Mulhuddart electoral area.
Currently the party has no representatives in this four seat ward. However
Boundary Commission currently examining Fingal’s electoral areas
is widely expected to increase the number of seats to five and the party
is confident of taking one – if not two of those seats next June.
The Fine Gael national executive has recently confirmed the appointment
of two local residents, Kieran Dennison and Adeola Ogunsina, as “area
representatives” for Mulhuddart and it is generally accepted that
they will emerge as the party’s standard bearers when the local
convention is held later in the year to select the party’s candidates
for the next local elections.
Kieran Dennison is a Donegal man who has lived in Dublin 15 for the
last 20 years. He is probably best know for his work as chairperson
of Portersgate Residents’ Association – a position he held
for six years from 1998 to 2004. Having stepped down from that role
he joined Fine Gael where he has served as constituency chairman for
the past three years and played a major role in the election of Dr.
Leo Varadkar to Dáil Éireann last year.
According to Kieran “Mulhuddart is losing out in terms of investment
and priorities in comparison with other areas in the county such as
Swords, Malahide and Castleknock. Instead of voting for Socialist and
Sinn Fein councillors who use the council to fight political battles
over bin charges and parking meters, I am going to give local people
a change to vote for a local Fine Gael councillor who will ensure that
our area gets fair share of the council’s resources,” said
Kieran.
Adeola Ogunsina is originally from Nigeria and having moved to Ireland
in 2000, he now lives in Ongar with his wife Georgia and his young daughter
and son. Armed with a degrees in economics and business administration,
he initially worked as retail site manager of the Autobahn shell service
station. Five years ago when Shell Ireland decided to stop running its
network of service stations directly through its own team of managers,
Adeola seized the opportunity to establish his own company to run a
service station. He now operates three such stations including the one
in Mulhuddart village
Having joined Fine Gael three years ago, Adeola says his priorities
for the area will include the provision of a community centre in the
plans for the new school building in Phibblestown and at a wider level
“promoting inter-racial relationship and understanding in the
county.”
