Looking at future options

Sometimes life seems to be full of decisions and many of these decisions are ones that can have a big impact on our future. This can be particularly stressful for people trying to decide on a future career or very often on making a career change.

Future Options is a course organised by Blanchardstown Area Partnership which is specifically aimed at people who literally don’t know what their next step should be. The course seeks to help them make the correct decisions for their future career from what training course should they should select to assist making decisions about their long term career goals.

Most importantly, it offers a very gentle programme with the underlying aim of boosting the participants’ self confidence. According to course co-ordinator, Catherine Smyth, “there are no exams and no pressure. Making it enjoyable for all is one of our major objectives.”

The response of participants underlines the success of the course and the manner in which it approaches its subject and its participants. Paula, who successfully completed a previous course described it as “a very enjoyable experience. I didn’t want to to stop, I just wanted more. I really think that it will help me to complete another course,” she said.

Future Options takes place twice a week – on Tuesday and Thursday mornings – over an 8 week period in Dillon House in Coolmine Industrial Park and will continue until June.
