Closure
Order for Castleknock restaurant
A restaurant in Castleknock was closed recently by the Food Safety Authority
of Ireland (FSAI) for breaches of the food safety laws.
The Metzo Diner located in the grounds of the Travelodge Hotel at the
Auburn roundabout on the Navan Road was served with a closure order
last month by a local Environmental Health Officer. The order was served
on Daryl Egan, of the Egan Hospitality Group which operates the restaurant.
According to the FSAI, closure orders are issued “if in the opinion
of the authorised officer, there is or there is likely to be a grave
and immediate danger to public health at/or in the food premises.”
It is understood that the restaurant has since re-opened. However the
FSAI’s official website does not show the date the closure order
was lifted.
The diner was originally known as the Little Chef until the Travelodge
chain of five Irish hotels was purchased two years ago by Richard O’Sullivan
and Seamus McGowan, two former executives of the Jurys Doyle hotel group.
One of their first moves on purchasing the chain was to get rid of the
Little Chef restaurants and they entered into long-term agreements with
Egan Hospitality to run the Castleknock restaurant and the one in Swords.
The Eddie Rocket group took over the restaurants at the remaining three
Travelodges in Waterford, Cork and Limerick.
