| Citizens’ information service in Ongar Knowing
your rights is a fundamental part of living in a democracy and one organisation
that plays a key role in offering vital information in this area is
the Citizens Information Centre. The Blanchardstown/Dublin 15 Citizens’ Information Centre has been providing information and advice on rights and entitlement to local residents for over 30 years. Originally based in the BRACE Centre on Blanchardstown’s Main Street, it moved some years ago to more modern and spacious offices in Westend House on Snugborough near the Blanchardstown Centre. Some time ago the centre set up an outreach service in Connolly Hospital on Tuesday mornings (Ash Ward Unit) and on Thursday afternoons (main foyer). More recently in a move designed to bring the service closer to some of the more outlying areas of the community, a second outreach service has been opened in Ongar. The new service operates out of the offices of Blanchardstown Area Partnership (BAP) from where staff will offer information, advice and advocacy to clients, covering a wide variety of topics such as social welfare entitlements, separation, employment rights, tenants’ rights and taxation. They will also offer help with filling in forms and drafting letters. A variety of forms will also be available, such as passport applications, medical card forms, child benefit forms etc. Mindful
of those working during the day the new service will operate on Thursday
evenings from 6 - 8 pm. As always, the service is completely free, confidential
and open to all.
