ITB
student short-listed for film award
ITB
business studies student Sarah Pirat has been shortlisted as one of
five finalists in the prestigious Dare2bDrinkAware film competition
which carries a prize fund of €5,000.
Sarah has been short-listed by the adjudicators for her film entitled
‘It’s a life inside’.
Dare2bDrinkAware is a competition for third-level students, sponsored
by DrinkAware.ie and organised by the Digital Hub Development Agency.
The aim of the competition is to highlight young people’s attitudes
to alcohol, and the aspiring film-makers that entered have produced
innovative shorts, challenging the relationship between Irish culture
and drinking. The short-listed entries in the competition were announced
recently at an event in the Irish Film Institute in Temple Bar.
Speaking at the announcement of the short-listed entries, Fionnuala
Sheehan, Chief Executive of MEAS, the organisation behind DrinkAware.ie,
said young people have a role to play in promoting responsible attitudes
to drinking, and should be more involved in coming up with solutions
to the problems caused by alcohol abuse.
“This competition is a way of getting young people to think more
deeply about alcohol consumption, and to challenge the relationship
between Irish culture and drinking,” she said.
According to Michael Hallissy, Director of Learning at the Digital Hub
Development Agency, “The five short-listed films differ greatly
in style and content, and are truly reflective of the creativity of
Irish students today. A total prize fund of €5,000 is up for grabs
through this competition, and we hope that it will help kick-start the
careers of some of Ireland’s future famous film-makers.”
