Corduff
FC looks for railing around pitch
In
a situation which shows the nature of local sporting club’s struggles
for even relatively basic amenities, the soccer players are Corduff
is appealing for funding to provide a railing around their pitch. What
may seem a fairly rudimentary item is of critical importance for the
club in its efforts to host home games in the coming season.
Indeed, the club’s heroic Junior Cup team may be forced to play
their home games in the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh from next season unless
they can find funding to erect this supporter’s barrier fence
around their main pitch.
Corduff is on the verge of qualification to the Premier A Division,
the highest junior division in the country. The glory of qualifying
for this higher grade is briefly offset, however, by the requirement
that the team plays on a pitch with adequate provision for a barrier
around the pitch to divide spectators and players.
Naturally, at this stage this matter has become a priority and the club
has already contacted Fingal County Council to ask permission for the
construction of this amenity.
The club doesn’t require any donations as yet, but it would appreciate
as many individuals or companies with a vested interest in the continued
progress of the club to initially commit in principle to donating €250
subject to final approval being granted.
In addition to this, the club is also welcoming voluntary assistance
in the construction of this high-quality pedestrian rail. Areas of specific
requirement would be for people who can mix concrete and do general
labourers’ work, plumbers who can work with galvanised steel piping,
and anyone who can offer assistance with measurements, mini-excavator
operations, painting and groundwork.
Club Secretary John McGuinness has said to the local community to “feel
free to contact any of the club committee to express a willingness to
support or assist financially or in person with this venture.”
He says that this will be a major asset to the community and will enable
to club to improve further and will complement the existing sports centre.
He added that the high turnouts for the Junior Cup side’s games
suggest that the rail is badly needed immediately.
To contact the Corduff Committee to assist in any way, people are asked
to call Club PRO John McGuinness on 085-7168009.
