Castleknock reach Féile Football final

Castleknock 2-4 Thomas Davis 1-2

Castleknock under-14 footballers have reached the final of this year’s Dublin Féile with a good win over Thomas Davis at their opponents ground. That final will be played on the first Saturday in May.

Thomas Davis hosted the match on their first-class all-weather pitch in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains and during the entire second half the pitch was white with hail and snow. Not many grounds could have successfully hosted this game. Following on where the hurlers left off? – Castleknock’s footballers bidding for Féile honours

Castleknock suffered a blow early on when Colm Nevill dislocated two fingers while attempting to block a shot and had to sit out the reminder of the game. He was replaced by Conor Byrne directly in his position while Barry Moore joined the fray.

Despite this early setback, Castleknock took control of the game and goals from Artur Stark and Ian McSherry along with a series of good points gave them a nine-point lead at half-time.

The second half was played in terrible conditions and Castleknock continued to work hard to ensure that despite the efforts of Thomas Davis they were going through. Conor Byrne playing out of his usual position played like he had always been a back, catching and clearing with skill and confidence with the support of Tom Quinn and Dermot Murray, and Brian Hughes give his usual best and put in a brave potential point scoring block in the middle of the half.

Alex Kelly and Darragh O’Connor worked tirelessly at midfield supported by Eoin O’Brien, Brian Hughes and John O’Hare. Thomas Davis showed they were still in the game and scored a goal and point from play. Barry Moore played as a third mid-fielder winning high ball consistently and laying it off. The goalkeeping duties fell to Matthew Dunn who had a number of good saves and distributed the kick outs with precision.
