Calling
all potential ladies’ Gaelic Footballers
Ladies in the Dublin 15 area now have the opportunity to start participation
in one of the fastest growing sports in the country as the chance to
try their hands as Gaelic Football emerges. The Ladies Gaelic Football
Association in association with Fingal County Council is running a programme
called Gaelic4Girls in Damastown Park every Wednesday evening.
The programme will run for six weeks and started last Wednesday 9th
April. The programme aims to increase participation in Ladies Gaelic
Football, and has been rolled out nationally in a wide range of areas.
Gaelic4Girls targets girls between the ages of 10 and 13 years and looks
to attract an attendance of approximately 50 girls at different venues
across the country. Once they have completed the six-week programme,
all the girls participating around the country will be invited to a
National Blitz Day in Croke Park, where they will play a mix of games
and receive their medals and certificates of attendance.
Catriona Geraghty, Sports Development Officer for Fingal County Council
says “This is the first Gaelic4Girls programme to be held in the
Mulhuddart area and it is hoped that all these girls will continue to
play Ladies Gaelic Football by joining their local clubs. It’s
a great way to make new friends and learn a new sport, and Fingal County
Council is delighted to work with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association
in promoting this programme. We have visited a number of schools in
the area to launch Gaelic4Girls, and the reception from both teachers
and pupils has been fantastic, so we’re looking forward to a great
turn out on Wednesdays.”
