Lucky sevens at Blanchardstown Library

Traditionally seven has been regarded by many people as a lucky number. For seven visitors to Blanchardstown library on the seventh of this month it will be luckier than usual when the library celebrates its seventh birthday.Coming to Blanchardstown Library, the singing footballers – Jack O’Shea, David Beggy and Barney Rock

This year’s birthday will also coincide with Europe day and the library will be adopting a European theme for some of the day‘s events. These will included a European Quiz for children which will take place at 10.00am & 11.00am

To mark another great cultural event due to take place later this month – the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest – the library will also be hosting a major Eurovision Song Contest quiz and exhibition. This will kick off at 6.45 p.m.

Continuing with the theme of quality music, patrons will also be entertained by the talented trio of Barney Rock, Jack O’Shea & David Beggy – winners of this year’s ‘Charity You’re a Star’ on RTE. Their live performance of all their greatest hit (sic) will take place at 7 p.m. The musical entertainment will conclude with some live traditional music which starts at 7.30 p.m.

During the course of the day, to mark the 7th birthday, seven lucky patrons will be chosen at random to receive prizes donated by the Blanchardstown Centre, Europe Direct and other sponsors.

“The library continues to get bigger and better as the years pass,” said Yvonne Reilly who heads up the team at Blanchardstown Library. However she assured Community Voice that though it may be the biggest public library in Ireland, Blanchardstown has no intention of resting on its laurels.

“Fingal County Council is holding a leisure strategy meeting in the library on May 15th at 8 p.m. to find out from the general public how it can improve leisure services for the county,” said Yvonne. “As the library is a significant part of the leisure service and we would welcome any input we get from our members.”

Meanwhile work is also planned to upgrade parts of the library in the coming months. “We are looking at revamping the lending area by combining the desks in both the junior and senior sections to make it easier for users,” she said.
