Tyrrelstown
school raises funds for hospice
In March of this year the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Tyrrelstown
Educate Together National School held a spring fair for the local community
in the school buildings and grounds on Powerstown Road. The event proved
to be a great success both socially and financially raising over €1,000.
The PTA had decided that the monies raised would be divided equally
between the Dublin 15 Hospice fundraising committee and the school’s
own library. Last week Fr. Dan Joe O’Mahony was invited to the
school for the handover of a cheque for €500 while the school’s
assistant principal, Emma O’Malley gratefully accepted a further
cheque in the same amount for the library from Joseph Bankole, chairperson
of the PTA.
Mr. Bankole told Community Voice that in addition to
the cheques the library had also benefited from other books that had
been donated to the spring fair. According to Mr. Bankole the next event
in the PTA’s calendar will be an International Day in the school
on Sunday May 25th.
“Last year we held this event and it was a huge success so this
year we are hoping that all the different cultures in our area will
again partake in the event. There will be dancing, international food,
live music and even donkey rides for the children,” he promised.
The Tyrrelstown school continues to go from strength to strength. There
are currently 275 children on the roll, but according to principal Maurice
Hurley “we expect this to increase to over 350 in September with
the start of the new school year and the intake of new pupils.”
