County Council’s popular “Cleaner Communities Awards”
for 2008 have just been launched by the environmental services department.
The Awards scheme, which is a countywide competition aimed at making
the county a cleaner, greener place to live, rewards schools, communities
and businesses for their efforts in maintaining a litter-free and well
presented school, estate or place of business.
According to Edwina Dunford, the council’s Environmental Education
Officer, “we are now inviting entries for the Awards for 2008
and we would particularly welcome further new entries to the competition.
We especially encourage local businesses to enter. There is a broad
range of categories, so you can enter your home, your business, your
housing estate or indeed even just part of your estate,” she said.
Previously organised as the Tidy Districts competition, the awards scheme
has now been in operation for over 30 years. “We want to make
2008 an even bigger and better competition,” says Edwina, “so
this is a chance for people to get credit for all the hard work they
have carried out during the past year.”
Full details of the competition, together with information and guidance
for entrants is available from the Environmental Awareness Team, Fingal
County Council, County Hall, Main St., Swords, (tel. 01-890 6768 / 6236
or e-mail: envserv@fingalcoco.ie).
