National Aquatic Centre announces summer camps details

The National Aquatic Centre (NAC) in Blanchardstown, has just announced the launched of its 2008 Summer Camps. Always one of the highlights of the year at the ever-busy centre, this year’s camps will be twice as long as previous years.

During last year’s camp the sessions ran for half-days from 10am to 1 pm. This year, while again starting at 10am, they will run until 4pm. The extra length of time involved provides opportunities for extra activities.

The classes will now focus on swimming skills and diving skills. There will be surfing in the Aquazone leisure pool and organised outdoor games. The basics of the exciting game of water-polo will be taught as well as the elegance of synchronised swimming. All children are guaranteed to enjoy a mystery field trip at the end of the week’s camp, and of course lots of time will be spent enjoying the fun and the slides of Aquazone.

The NAC’s General Manager, Teifion Williams, says that “the National Aquatic Centre is a facility that is second to none in terms of leisure facilities in Ireland, so we can offer so much more than anywhere else.

“Apart from our huge Olympic-sized pool and separate diving pool, we have Ireland’s largest indoor fun park in Aqauzone. Along with that we have lots of lush green areas within our boundaries, so we thought we’d bring use them a bit this to enhance our product offering even more and to create some more variety.”

The Camps will take place over five consecutive weeks from Mondays to Fridays. The start dates are – all Mondays – 7th July, 28th July, and in August they will start on the 4th, 11th and 18th of August. The cost for each Camp is €145 per child for non-members. Members or €135 for those who are currently member of the National Aquatic Centre. A special off for two children for €250 is an attractive saving available to those who book before 11th May.

According to Teifion Williams classes are expected to be booked up quickly considering how popular the Centre’s facilities are with children so early booking is advised for those who are serious about doing the camps.

The NAC currently caters for over 1,400 children per week fro swimming lessons apart from the large numbers who come in to enjoy the Aquazone. It is considered by the NAC that the camps are great value for money this year considering that the children will be with them for such a long day.

The day will see the children exposed to water-based activities for up to six hours in all with a short break for lunch. An exciting and varied programme will be put in place by the teachers with the mystery field trip on Fridays expected to be a highlight to finish off a busy week.
