Building
a bridge to the workplace
The aptly named ‘Bridge-to-Workplace’ programme is a work
experience initiative aimed at supporting and facilitating the career
progression of people with a history of drug use.
This innovative social inclusion project seeks to facilitate the reintegration
of people into mainstream employment and training. It is a unique and
innovative intervention which supports the progression of stable individuals
with a history of addiction through the establishment of a workplace/work
experience programme.
The so-called ‘bridge’ is in fact a multi-agency collaborative
venture involving a wide number of relevant bodies including FÁS
and Blanchardstown LES.
At the core of the programme is a work experience placement with guidance,
training and practical support from key workers within the Local Employment
and Rehab Reintegration Services.
The Bridge-to-Workplace team also provides job skills training, interview
techniques, relaxation techniques, personal development and formal training
to help clients in a structured placement.
Individuals must be motivated and committed to engaging in the programme
and placement. In return for this commitment, the programme offers a
high level of support in order to progress to employment, training or
education.
A showcase event highlighting the work of the programme to date will
take on Monday 26th May at 12 noon in the Ardmore Hotel in Finglas.
