Commemoration
and hope
This year’s annual service of commemoration and hope for people
affected by drug-related deaths will take place in St Brigid’s
Church in Blanchardstown Village on Wednesday 28th May.
According to Phillip Keegan, co-ordinator of the Greater Blanchardstown
Response to Drugs (GBRD), the service is still an important event for
the families and friends of those who died from drug use or related
causes. “This service helps us to keep the memory of our loved
ones alive. We must never forget that when a drug-user dies, they leave
behind heart-broken parents, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters,”
said Phillip.
Speaking to Community Voice, Dave Francis, one of the
organisers of this year’s event said “the theme this year
is ‘life’. We are asking people to join us as we recognise
those who have lost family members to drug misuse. It is an opportunity
to stand together, remembering those who have been damaged by drugs,
looking towards a future where Blanchardstown is increasingly free from
the associated problems and where we can reclaim our lives once more.”
The theme of this year’s service is “life” and it
will take place between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday 28th May. Further
details can be obtained from the office of GBRD (tel. 01 826 2364).
According to Dave “we are inviting residents, organisations and
businesses in the area to join us in marking the impact of drug use
on our community. We especially welcome those who have been exposed
to the issue in the past year.”
