Ladies
lunching
One
of the great local success stories of 2007 was the launch of the D15
Charity Group which raised a staggering €85,000 for charities in
the area. The majority of the funding was raised in two events –
a ladies lunch and fashion show in May followed by a gents’ golf
classic later on in the year.
Naturally with such beneficial results, the formula is being repeated
this year along with hopes that even this heady total can be surpassed.
First out of the hat will be the ladies luncheon and fashion show, which
is scheduled for May 22nd in The Castleknock Hotel and Country Club,
followed on the 4th September by the D15 charity golf classic.
This year’s Lunch and Fashion Show promises to be as spectacular
as the inaugural event last year with a host of star studded names and
a variety of exciting prizes up for auction. The day will kick off with
a champagne reception followed by a keynote address from guest speaker
Frances Black before the fashion show commences.
This will feature an eclectic mix of international and local designers,
including Jen Kelly, Claire Garvey, Jennifer Rothwell, Sheena Lyons,
Libra Designs, Régine, Michael H, Ailbhe Keating and the award
winning Ciara Stewart. Among the professional and local models appearing
will be Glenda Gilson, Vivian Connolly, Jennifer Langan, Una Gibney,
Ann Boylan, Aileen Morrin and special guest Lisa Murphy.
The prizes to be auctioned on the day are quite breathtaking. Jen Kelly
has donated a haute couture dress and Van Morrison has signed one of
his trilby hats. There will also be a Louise Kennedy 18" aurora
vase and a John Rocha signed crystal, amongst others.
Pride of place of the items going under the hammer is the two VIP tickets
to the Bruce Springsteen concert courtesy of Delahunty Event Management.
This prize has a value of €1200 and includes a pre-concert gourmet
dinner with wine, top priced tickets and admission to the post-concert
party.
“We had the idea that we would raise money for charities exclusive
to Dublin 15,” said Chris Singh who, with Jacqui Curley founded
the charity. “We took advice from people in the know and, on a
committee basis, worked out how to distribute the money where it would
help the most.
“The charities for the golfing event were decided by the competing
teams themselves but the monies from the luncheon and fashion show had
to be decided upon as a group.”
Benefitting charities last year included the Women’s Refuge Centre
in Blanchardstown, the St. Francis Hospice, Children Smart Learning
and the Can Do Club in Corduff, which was set up by parents of children
with disabilities, who found it a struggle to find any kind of inclusive
social or leisure facilities to suit their children’s needs.
“The D15 charity has helped us to provide a much needed service
for new parents of children with special needs,” said Can Do’s
Amanda Riordan. “This is something we think the government should
have provided a long time ago. Every child has the right to social and
leisure facilities and thanks to the D15 charity our children can play
too.
“We can now give the children the opportunity to develop their
social skills, create life long friends and above all have fun.”
The 2008 D15 charity ladies lunch and fashion show is being organised
by Jacqueline Curley, Kathleen McMahon, Catherine McCaul and Theresa
Rocca.
