| Fingal Freddie visits Hartstown Next
time you see a strange fox-like creature running up and down the touchline
at a football game involving Sporting Fingal you can take some satisfaction
in the fact that the poor guy sweating it out in the furry outfit is
doing so because of the creative talent of a second year student on
Hartstown Community School. Earlier this year, the newly launched club organised a competition among Fingal schools inviting pupils to design a mascot for the team. Ann Moylan the art teacher in Hartstown got some of her students involved and ultimately it was the proposal from second year student Sarah Gerrard from Hazelwood Court that emerged victorious. According to John Gahan, general manager of Sporting Fingal, “when we went through all the entries we received for the competition, Sarah’s submission stood out as we went through the applications.” Sarah’s prize for winning the competition was a lap top computer and a number of footballs for the school. Some of the club’s players and officials attended the school recently to present Sarah with her prize. Club secretary, John O’Brien, thanked everyone who entered the competition and in particular he thanked Sarah “for coming up with the club’s new mascot. Your entry was the best, so you’re the one who is to blame for Freddie,” he said. School
principal Maureen Black congratulated Sarah on her success and she presented
her pupil with a voucher “as a token of our gratitude for winning
this computer for the school.”
