Phoenix
Park school plans shelved
Plans for one of the three proposed VEC community national schools in
Dublin 15 have been shelved due to low enrolment figures.
Only 13 pupils were signed up for Scoil Oisín on the site of
the old Phoenix Park race course. The new school was primarily intended
to serve residents of the new apartments and houses being built on the
site.
Initially it is understood that only 9 children were enrolled for the
new school when the closing date arrived and this date was further extended.
However when only four more names were received the VEC decided to postpone
plans for the new school.
The 13 children who had sought enrolment for the new school will now
be accommodated between the three other primary schools in the area.
Meanwhile it is understood that there have been strong enrolment numbers
for the other two local VEC community national schools – Scoil
Choilm in Kellystown and Scoil Grainne in Phibblestown.
