Castleknock at Ballyboden St Enda’s U12 Football Tournament

On a dull wet Sunday morning Castleknock’s Under12 boys made the trip across the M50 to take part in the Ballyboden St Enda’s U12 football tournament, which is held every year in memory of the Keegan family who died tragically a couple of years ago. In the group stages Castleknock played St. James’ GFC from Co. Antrim. A well-fought game resulted in the Dublin boys proving too strong for their northern opponents, with the Castleknock forwards proving especially elusive for the St James' defence. The final score was Castleknock 6-9 St. James’ 0-2

The second group game proved a much different affair for Castleknock who came up against a superb outfit from Newbridge Sarsfields of Kildare. Their all round strength proved too much for Castleknock and Newbridge - the eventual cup winners - took the honours. The final score was Castleknock 1-4 Newbridge Sarsfields 3-8

After a splendid lunch provided by the host club it was into the shield semi-final against Ballyboden B. Castleknock played with the wind in the first-half and led at the break by only a point - 1-3 to 1-2. But it was in the second-half that the Castleknock boys really found their feet in the tournament and produced a superb display to add 6 more points without reply against the wind to leave the score Castleknock 1-9 Ballyboden 1-2

The Shield final against Graiguecullen from the Laois/Carlow border proved a tough encounter. Castleknock were playing well but despite playing with the wind were trailing 0-3 to 0-2 at half-time. Again the second half performance was superb as the Dublin team won out by the minimum margin at the end - Castleknock 0-5 Graiguecullen 0-4
