New
schools update
The question of school sites in the Dublin 15 area was discussed at
the June meeting of Fingal County Council when Cllr. Ruth Coppinger
tabled a motion seeking a report on the various sites for new schools
in the county. Replying to Cllr. Coppinger the County Manager, David
O’Connor gave an update on the state of negotiations for six sites
in the Dublin 15 area.
Phoenix
Park
Negotiations are currently taking place by the Council with the landowner
[Flynn & O’Flaherty] to acquire a 3.5 acre site for a new
primary school, and also with the Department of Education regarding
timescales for the school. Planning permission has recently been granted
for this school, to be known as Scoil Oisín.
As reported previously in Community Voice, County Dublin
VEC, the patron of this new school has now decided to shelve plans for
the opening of this school, originally planned for this September, as
a result of the low enrolment figures.
Ongar
A 4 acre site has been acquired by the Council, for the accommodation
of 2 Primary schools and has been transferred to the Department of Education
& Science.
Planning permission was granted for these schools last year. Castaheany
Educate Together national school has now moved to its new premises on
the Ongar site.
Porterstown
Negotiations are currently taking place by the Council with the landowner
to acquire a site for a new primary and possible post-primary school.
Planning permission has recently been granted for the primary school.
This school – Scoil Choilm – will be moving from its temporary
location in Blanchardstown Village to the new site in Porterstown (Kellystown)
in September.
Phibblestown
The Council has acquired an 8 acre site for the provision of a primary
and a post-primary school and has transferred it to the Co. Dublin V.E.C.
Planning permission has been granted for the primary school and papers
are currently being finalised for the transfer of this site to the Co.
Dublin VEC.
The two schools – Scoil Gráinne community national school
and Phibblestown Community College – will open in temporary premises
on the site in September.
Hansfield
The Council is in negotiations with the owners of a 15 acre site for
its acquisition for the provision of two primary schools and a post-primary
school on the Hansfield lands.
Tyrrelstown
The Council has been requested by the Department of Education &
Science to make available further lands, adjoining the existing temporary
Educate Together school to accommodate an additional national school
(under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin). Discussions are currently
taking place and planning permission has recently been granted for the
school.
