Mountview boys and girls FC enjoy a successful season
By John Callaghan
As another soccer season comes to a close the young players of Mountview
can look back on the past season with some pride as it has been a very
successful one both on and off the pitch.
With eleven teams playing for the club, the under-7B team, the under-8s
and our under-9s all won their leagues, while the under 11s were runners-up
in their first season as an 11-a-side team. The under-12A1 team won
its league by going unbeaten and dropped only two points all season.
This team also was runner-up in the Hillery cup.
The club’s under-18s signed off their schoolboy careers in great
style with a league and cup double. Having won an exciting cup final
4-2 on penalties against Park Celtic after a 2-2 drawn match they then
went on to win the league with a play-off victory against St. Francis
F.C.
Congratulations go to the managers Mick Harrop and Keith Greene and
to the whole squad, and they are wished the best of luck by the club
in whatever direction their footballing futures take them. A big thank
you and a job well done also goes to all the managers and players of
teams that were not fortunate enough to finish among the trophies this
season.
The club also had a very successful and enjoyable soccer nursery. On
Saturday 24th May the club’s soccer nursery had a great day out
in the Corduff sports centre and had two matches against Corduff’s
soccer nursery.
All the kids who participated, the parents, supporters and everyone
who attended had a really great day out with lots of fun and it was
a reminder of the significance of participation as the first and most
important thing in sport.
Credit and thanks must also go to the hosts Corduff F.C. who supplied
sweets and refreshments for all the kids afterwards. The kids were led
out onto the pitches to rapturous applause from all the supporters and
made feel like heroes playing in a Champions League Final.
But despite all the success the season will linger long in our memories
as the year we lost young Peter Whelan to a tragic accident. On that
note may we wish everyone connected to the club a very happy and safe
summer and we look forward to seeing all the kids, parents and supporters
again for the new season.
It is hoped that next season we will have three under-7 teams, two under-8s
and two under-9s as well as an under-10, 11, 12, two under-13s, an under-15
and an under-18 team. There will be trials for our three under-7 teams
(that is for kids born in the years 2001 and 2002) on Wednesday 2nd
of July at 6.15pm.
The under 8 trials (for kids born in 2000) will be on Wednesday 9th
July at 6.15pm and trials for our under 9s (for kids born in 1999) will
be on Saturday 5th July. Trials for the under-18s will be on June 23rd
at 7pm all in Mountview Park. It is also hoped that one of each of the
under-7s, 8s and 9s will play on a Sunday morning to utilise our facilities.
For more information on the other teams you can contact John Callaghan
on 086 3882612.
Could you be the next Trapattoni?
Would you like to become the next big thing in football management or
just have a really enjoyable experience with kids enthusiastic about
sport? Mountview boys and girls football club are looking for managers
and coaches for the new season for our under-7s, 8s and 9s.
You could be part of the management team of one of the club’s
three new teams being introduced this season. It would take about 2–4
hours of your time per week and can be arranged around your schedule.
There are no qualifications needed at junior level with the only requirement
being to be good with kids. You will be given all the support needed
and also the club will fund and arrange any coaching qualifications
you may wish to go for. For more information contact Mick Harrop on
086 3802947 or John Callaghan on 086 3882612.
The club also received great news recently from the Clonsilla Credit
Union in the form of a sponsorship for the forthcoming season. The money
received from this sponsorship will go a long way towards helping the
club help the kids. It will allow the club to repair the containers
that were vandalised earlier in the season, to buy some new equipment
and help generally towards the running costs of the nursery.
