Officer charged
A prison officer from Clonsilla has appeared before Dublin District
Court charged with 14 offences in relation to the smuggling of illegal
drugs, alcohol and mobile phones into Mountjoy Prison.

Dillon O’Brien (36) from Charnwood Meadows was charged following
a lengthy investigation by the Garda's Organised Crime Unit. The 14
offences with which O’Brien was charged are alleged to have taken
place between January 2005 and March 2007.
Six of the charges related to cases in which he allegedly conveyed mobile
phones to Mountjoy inmate Thomas Hinchon. One of those six charges also
related to the conveying of a bottle of vodka to Hinchon.
In a further five cases, Mr. O'Brien is charged with bringing heroin
to Hinchon at Mountjoy Prison.
In another case, it is alleged that he conspired with another prisoner,
Wayne Bradley in the supply of cocaine to another prisoner.
A further charge alleges that the prison officer was involved in a conspiracy
to bring two mobile phones another prisoner named in court as Donnagh
O'Brien.
The final charge is one of possession of cocaine at his home in Clonsilla
on March 15th, 2007.
Judge Miriam Malone remanded O’Brien in custody with consent to
bail to appear before Dublin District Court on August 26th when the
book of evidence is due to be complete. The judge also directed that
he has to sign on three times a week at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
