Youth
scholarships awarded
Two members of the Blanchardstown Computer Clubhouse have been awarded
scholarships to help them pursue their third level education.
Austin O’Hanlon and David Anderson were selected for the awards
based on their commitment to the Clubhouse, community involvement, academic
achievements and future goals.
Each year the Intel Foundation funds a number of Clubhouse to College
scholarships (C2C). Scholarships amounts range from $2,500 - $5,000
(US) for post secondary school students. The scholarships are intended
to provide resources to selected Computer Clubhouse members as they
make the transition into third level education. A key component of the
Clubhouse programme is C2C, which encourages Clubhouse young people
to pursue studies beyond secondary school and realise their full potential.
The Intel Clubhouse Network received applications from young people
in 25 computer clubhouses located around the globe. In their application,
David and Austin spoke about their experiences in the Clubhouse and
the opportunities that the programme has brought them.
Both young men will put their scholarships to good use in their current
studies. David is pursuing a course in Youth Studies at Liberties College
while Austin is following his passion for art and design at Ballyfermot
Senior College.
Blanchardstown Computer Clubhouse opened its doors in 2001 and has had
over 1,000 young people explore the latest computer based technology
within its walls. For more information visit www.computerclubhouse.ie
