Networking counsellors

Counselling is an profession that offers support in most areas of life and a group of Dublin 15 based counsellors have formed a networking group who meet regularly to discuss current issues and approaches to their subject. Some of the Dublin 15 counsellors (L-R): Michael Ryan, Kevin Gallagher, Gerry Fleming, Marie Helen Mayronnet, Colm Stanley and Tommy Dwyer

The group meets for a networking lunch at 12 noon on the last Wednesday of every month in the Betelnut Cafe at Draíocht.

According to PRO, Michael Ryan, “the meeting is relaxed and informal in a quiet corner of the cafe and everyone buys their own lunch. The group has been meeting for nearly a year now and the idea is to bring people closer together as counsellors and psychotherapists very often don’t get an opportunity to meet others doing the same work.

“There are currently around twenty professionally qualified counsellors attached to the group from varying counselling approaches and those who attend find the interaction very useful for sharing information on courses, seminars, books, workshops and techniques. Around 10 - 12 people attend each month,” he said.

The group would like to involve more people in their meetings and anyone with a formal qualification in counselling and/or psychotherapy who lives or works in the Dublin 15 area is welcome to join.
