Speed cushions for Diswellstown Road

Following many years of pressure from local residents, Fingal County Council has finally given a commitment to implement a comprehensive traffic plan for the Diswellstown Road. The bus terminus on Diswellstown Road – moving to Coolmine

The plans envisage the placing of “speed cushions” on the road and the moving of the existing Dublin bus No 37 bus terminus to Coolmine near Power City.

Diswellstown Road was the scene of a tragic accident last year which saw a young girl lose her life.

The county council has now earmarked €50,000 for the implementation of the new traffic calming measures.

Local Socialist Party councillor Matt Waine has worked alongside local residents to get the plans implemented. He told Community Voice “there is an important lesson here. When communities get organised and, supported by their local elected representatives, bring sustained pressure to bear on the council, important victories can be won.”

The plans have recently been put on display by the council for a month to allow members of the public an opportunity comment or make submissions on the proposals.

If the plans are finally approved, it is hoped to have work completed by July.
