Rain
Just
as Draíocht is committed to providing high quality for all ages,
so Spréacha, the children’s festival, is always careful
not to exclude the very, very young from its schedule.
Rain, which is presented by the highly renowned Madam Bach theatre company
from Denmark, is aimed at audiences from the under ones to six years
of age. Such has been the success of the show that it has entertained
toddlers in nineteen different countries, the last of which was Canada.
And Ireland will be the twentieth.
“We are looking forward to visiting Dublin for the first time
as we have heard a lot of good things about the country and the city,”
says artistic director Christian Schroder. “There will be four
of us at the show - actress Gertrud Exner, musician Claus Carlsen, theatre
director Pernille Bach and myself – though Gertrud and Claus will
be the only ones on stage.”
The premise of Rain is very simple. The stage is very quiet but if you
listen hard enough, you might hear the wind. Slowly the rain begins,
isolated drops drip down on stage before the tempo is upped to a raging
thunderstorm. And then, as quickly as it began, it is over, with the
sun coming out to make the cycle complete.
“It is a very special and unique show that takes you on a journey
with rain,” says Christian. “Accompanied by live music,
this sensory show is a must see for the very youngest audiences and
a great introduction to the magic of stagecraft.”
Rain by Madam Bach plays six performances in Draíocht’s
main auditorium from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th June at various times.
Shows last 30 minutes and tickets are €5.
