Where
it all started
Going back to visit your old school can sometimes bring feelings of
trepidation but for two past pupils of St. Francis Xavier school in
Roselawn, their recent visit to their alma mater was a triumphant return
in every sense.
Gavin McIntyre and Cian Mullins who left the school in 2003 received
a tumultuous reception from the present day pupils when they visited
the school with the All Ireland and Leinster cups which they won this
year as part of the championship winning Dublin Under 21 football squad.
Welcoming them to the school, principal TP Parker said “these
two boys have done their school, their parents and their community proud.”
Replying to Mr. Parker’s words, Gavin said “this is where
it all started for me. It doesn’t matter what sport you play my
advice is to always listen to your mentors and coaches. You will learn
the tricks of the trade when you are young and these will develop as
you go up through the years.”
Cian confessed that “I was a terrible footballer when I was young
and what kept me going was playing with the school. It was only in the
last couple of years that I got good. My message is that if you keep
on trying it will come good in the end,” he said.
Presenting the two young stars with a small trophy to mark their visit
to the school, Mr. Parker said he hoped they would be back in the school
again in the not too distant future to show off the Sam Maguire cup.
