Another
rub of the green for Corduff
Earlier this year at a green action day in the school, the children
of St. Patrick’s junior school in Corduff were “tipped off”
that they were being recommended for a third green flag for their school.
This foreknowledge in no way detracted from the great excitement when
the flag was actually raised in the school grounds on the first day
of June by Cllr. Ciaran Byrne, Mayor of Fingal.
Patricia Kennedy, Fingal County Council’s green school’s
co-ordinator, recalled the action day when she spoke at the ceremony
and gave the children the ‘tongue in cheek’ advice that
she had been told (but could not confirm) that “while you save
water by showering rather than bathing you can save even more if you
don’t sing in the shower!”
Mayor Byrne congratulated the children pointing out that they were one
of the very few junior schools in the country to have been awarded three
green flags. The schools project for the third flag was water conservation
and the Mayor spoke of the importance of saving water. “All our
water comes out of taps and goes down drains,” he said. “We
use a lot of energy producing water and half that cost is spent pumping
water from place to place.
If we save water then we also save energy and money.”
