How
to make a profit from a paperclip
It
was an intriguing business challenge that the transition year students
of Riversdale Community College were set.
Each student was presented with a paperclip and was given one weekend
to complete as many swops as possible to end up with an item of higher
value. Students kept a log of swops completed and the challenges they
faced.
The winner of the challenge was Gavin Moloney, who made eight swops
and ended up with shares in a Lurcher hunting dog! For his remarkable
business acumen, Gavin was awarded first prize of a €100 voucher
for Blanchardstown Town Centre.
A special commendation award of a €50 voucher was awarded to Amy
Kelly.
“The students who took part in the challenge found it a great
experience and felt they began to see how effective they can be in the
business world,” said teacher Susan Robinson.
Such was the success of the project that it is envisaged it might be
repeated next year.
