Luttrellstown Community College – one year on

Although only one year in existence, the new Luttrellstown Community College has already exceeded all expectations with a remarkable first year of achievements and development.

Following a busy year of activity the students will be ending the year with a flurry of final events including a sellout talent show, a visit to Loughcrew, a picnic and a major education seminar on June 10th in Blanchardstown Library.Teachers and pupils from Luttrellstown Community College receive their GLEO award from Minister Pat Carey TD

2010 was ushered in with a win in the Young Scientist exhibition in the RDS and more recently the college won a prize in GLEO for promoting Irish in the school.

With an excellent take-up on enrolment for next September, planning for the following 2011/2012 school year has already started and enrolment for that year has already begun.

Full details of the college’s enrolment policies are also available on a comprehensive new website www.luttrellstowncc.ie

The college which is currently based in temporary VEC premises beside Connolly Hospital is hopeful of moving to its new location on the education campus in Kellystown. In the meantime planning permission for additional temporary accommodation at its present premises is currently being sought.

According to principal Fionnuala Ní Chaisil, “a lot of our students have no older siblings and are the first of their families to attend secondary school. Many parents have expressed a desire for more information on the education system and to meet this demand we are organising a seminar to give an overview of the Irish education system.” The seminar is open to all Dublin 15 parents and will be held in Blanchardstown library on Thursday June 10th at 6.45 p.m. Admission is free.

The college’s board of management is chaired by well known local businessman Joe Pitcher. Looking back on the first year he said, “I am truly amazed, inspired and humbled by the hard work and dedication, both the staff and students have displayed. I am particularly proud of the “can do” ethos and “partnership” that has developed between the whole school community and the fantastic vibrant atmosphere that pervades the place.

I look forward to the coming years as Luttrellstown Community College develops its full potential.”
