Along
the banks of the Royal Canal
Members of the local Green Party demonstrated their commitment to the
local environment recently when they organised a cleanup of the local
banks of the Royal Canal.
According to local party activist and former election candidate, Roderic
O’Gorman “we worked along the canal bank between Castleknock
Train Station and the 12th Lock and then some of the way towards Coolmine.”
Party members were encouraged by the fact that litter levels were significantly
down on last year.
However the green litter collectors still managed to fill 10 refuse
sacks with glass bottles, cans, plastic cartons and general waste.
There were one or two significant litter black spots along the canal.
“There is an area off the bridge over the canal at Castleknock
Station just beside the canal which is regularly used as a drinking
haunt where we found hundreds of bottles and cans.
I’ll be contacting Fingal County Council to advise them of ways
to block up this particular location,” said Roderic.
