GAA
president opens new Érin go Brágh clubhouse
It
was a very big day recently in the short history of the Érin
go Brágh GAA club when it welcomed the President of the GAA Christy
Cooney to the locality to open the club’s clubhouse facilities.
It only seems like yesterday since Brian Lenihan TD. and Cecil Stephens,
Chairman of Érin go Brágh, announced the placing of temporary
facilities on a site adjacent to Mary Mother of Hope, National School,
Littlepace with the high spec facility arriving at the club at the end
of January.
The completion of this project demonstrated the ongoing strength and
vibrancy of the Érin go Brágh club and now having very
fine dressing rooms in place will add hugely to the club and its players.
Not only will these facilities serve the club’s own members well
into the future but naturally they will also be a welcome attraction
for the many teams visiting Érin go Brágh for time to
time.
There is no doubt especially in this day and age that well-appointed
and suitable facilities are critical to the growth of any club.
Not only does the provision of proper facilities ensure that club members
can prepare for matches in appropriate surrounds they also enhance the
club’s identity in the area giving it a very visible presence
locally. This is particularly noteworthy for a club that has invested
such time and energy into encouraging young people in Dublin 15 to play
football, hurling, camogie since 1986.
Érin go Brágh would like to pay tribute to all those who
have worked so hard to bring this development about. It has a
very strong and active committee, chaired by Cecil Stephens, who were
the drivers of this project. “What we have achieved is a
credit to their energy and commitment – long may it last!
Key to our success is our excellent relationship with the local National
School, Mary Mother of Hope, the Dublin County Board and our main juvenile
sponsor, the Community Credit Union. All three groups believe
strongly in building communities within Dublin 15.
“Equally, we would like to thank all those in the local community
– parents, local business people and others – who have supported
this club over the years. Support at grass roots level is critical
to the survival of any club. Without your fundraising efforts,
your sponsorship and your turnout at matches, it would be difficult
for a club such as this to survive. Your support forms the backbone
of the thriving sporting culture we can boast of in this country.
Though a relatively young club the Érin go Brágh now has
ten teams representing the club from under-8 up to adult and the club
can certainly be pleased with its achievements in helping to provide
worthwhile activities in the area for many young people. There is little
doubt that the opening of these new facilities heralds even better times
ahead for Érin go Brágh.
The aim of Érin Go Brágh, GAA Club is to promote the Cumann
Lúthchleas Gael ethos within the community of Clonee, Dublin
15, through the provision of quality sports and related cultural activities
for all irrespective of gender, ethnic background and religious beliefs.
This is a big step forward for its GAA community and the club would
specifically like to thank the Board of Management of Mary Mother of
Hope School for its continued support.
