Eoin
Kennedy in the finals shake-up again
St Brigid’s clubman Eoin Kennedy has qualified again for the All-Ireland
Hardball semi-finals to be played this weekend. Eoin will face Seamus
O'Carroll in the semi-finals on Saturday. The star player underlined
his status as the country's top 60x30 player when he booked his place
in the semi-finals of both the Senior Singles and Senior Doubles sections
of this year's GAA All-Ireland Hardball Championships on the larger
court.
At Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare, the defending Senior Singles champion
and No. 1 seed, showed his true class when he defeated young Limerick
ace, C. J. Fitzpatrick (Broadford), in a hard-fought quarter-finals
clash over two games. In the first game, Kennedy, who has dominated
these championships for most of the last decade, produced his full array
of lethal kill shots and silken passing shots, allied to his trademark
serve, overwhelming Fitzpatrick and closing the game out on an emphatic
score line of 21-4.
The second game proved to be a much tighter affair, with both players
swapping point-for-point, but despite a battling display from the Limerickman,
the Dubliner forged ahead, to seal victory, on a still decisive score
line of 21-14. Kennedy was in action again, the following day at the
same venue when he linked-up with ace long-term doubles partner, Egin
Jensen to defeat ace Galway duo, Pat and Ollie Conway in another hard-fought
quarter-finals clash, over two games, on a score line of 21-11, 21-11.
More success beckons for this local man.
