Travellers
raise funds for sick children
The Blanchardstown Traveller Development Group (BTDG) recently held
its first sports day in the Mulhuddart Community Centre to highlight
the participation of travellers in sport and also to mark the successful
programme of work completed by the group over the course of the past
year.
The sports programme included badminton, basketball and swimming as
well as training for and participation in this year’s Women’s
Mini Marathon. As part of their involvement in the mini marathon, the
women also raised funds for Temple Street Hospital.
Brenda Smyth of the hospital’s fundraising department met the
women at their Sports Day in Mulhuddart Community Centre and gratefully
accepted a cheque for €1687.45. She commended the women on their
success in the mini marathon and outlined some of the areas of the hospital’s
activities which would benefit from the fund raising.
Brid Greenan, Primary Health Care Co-ordinator with the group congratulated
all the participants and expressed thanks to everyone who sponsored
them in their recent run.
The women who took part in the marathon were: Pauline Collins, Biddy
Joyce, Tessa Collins, Julianne Collins, Bernadette Joyce, Bridget Dinnegan,
Bernadette McDonagh, Martina McDonnell, Charlene Dinnegan, Margaret
Collins, Sharon Mc Donagh, Helen Mc Donagh and Brigid Collins.
