A visit from the gentility: Just when you thought Daniel O’Donnell was a one-off, along comes another country singer from the North West who looks certain to follow in the great man’s footsteps. Patrick Feeney from Gurteen co Sligo may be only 25 years old but he has already released five albums and has toured America to huge acclaim.

Photo competition draws large entry: The third annual Tom Shanahan Memorial Competition which closed recently drew a record 91 entries from all over Fingal and, according to St. Brigid’s Photo club chairperson, Michael McGee, the overall standard of submitted photographs was the highest ever.

An evening of very special stars: There may have been more well-known stars who have appeared on Draiocht’s illustrious stage in the past but few will have been as special as the young people of the Norma Breen Stage Academy who bring their immense array of talents to the theatre on February 2nd.

Death shall have no dominion: Simply combining the talents of one of the 20th century’s greatest poets with one of its greatest actors need not necessarily be a guarantee of success but Bob Kingdom’s “Return Journey” would not be celebrating its 21st anniversary if it were a flop.

Rehearsing the Bard: William Shakespeare remains a perennial favourite on the Leaving Cert syllabus and this year’s students will doubtless spend many hours trying to decipher the archaic language of “Othello” and his mental perambulations about a handkerchief.

Snapshot of the artist: For Dunshaughlin artist, Robert Lloyd,a challenge that he set himself at beginning of 2007 is starting to bear real fruit. He decided, simply, that he would paint each and every day, perfecting his technique and hopefully getting his name recognised in the art world.

Psst! You wanna be an author?: Anybody who has ever enquired about the possibility of getting a book published will know what a tortuous exercise it can be. The submission, the months of waiting, the rejection letters, sometimes no rejection letters – and all this before even a word has been proof-read, edited, revised, cut, lengthened or altered.
