An
enchanting evening of dance: For
some reason, it seems, Dublin 15 audiences have been bitten by the balletic
bug. Ballet Ireland performs regularly at Draiocht – in fact they
are returning with an “extravaganza” at the end of April –
and children are turning to this art form in a big way, as evidenced by
the hugely popular Marion Lennon School of Ballet in Roselawn.

A
barnstorming ride: Apart from pantomimes
(and specialised children’s festivals, such as Spréacha) there
is very little drama produced specifically for children. Plays tend to target
the adult market or to go for the “family” entertainment product,
so it is rare that a serious thought-provoking piece of theatre comes along
targetting the younger person.

Chip
off the old block: One thing you can say about Naomi Sex, whose
“20/20 Hindsight” exhibition opens in Draíocht’s
first floor gallery this week – she didn’t lick it off the stones!

 |
The
power of a few: Following on from Pablo Vasquez Borragan’s highly
evocative “Defenders of the Spanish Republic” photographic exhibition
at Blanchardstown Library comes an equally thought-provoking photo essay
by Blackrock photographer Elaine Ryan

 |
A
triple dose of delight: When
you have been the lead soloist on “Riverdance” for five years,
toured extensively in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Germany, France and
Scandinavia, played to a packed Carnegie Hall, played the Point and indeed
“The Late Late Show,” you might think that it would be hard
to motivate yourself for a gig in an intimate setting like Draiocht.

Art
for the Hospice: For
the third consecutive year, all Dublin 15 art lovers will be wending
their merry way down to Coolmine RFC for the Castleknock Art Group’s
annual exhibition in aid of the Hospice.
