Issue No 117
June 13th–June 27th 2008

A Monaghan magpie: Novelist, short-story writer and literary editor, Evelyn Conlon left her native Monaghan in 1970 and has been practically travelling the world ever since. Evelyn will be appearing at Blanchardstown Library on Tuesday 17th June at 7pm.

Not in alphabetical order: A few years ago, as part of one of the Amharc Fhine Gall exhibitions in Draíocht, works were selected from Fingal County Council's sizable Art Collection and put on view for the public to enjoy. A similar operation is underway at the moment to ensure that these exciting works of art don’t stay hidden from the public gaze for too long.
Over and Out for Draíocht: With Draíocht closing down for the summer to allow for renovations and improvements, it is perhaps apt that the final performances of the season should belong to a play called “Over and Out.”
The new life of Brian: A birthday bash at Cruisers bar in Tyrellstown turned into a whirlwind ride to stardom for one young Corduff man recently.

Another successful year for CSM: For those of us who often despair at the synthesised automation that masquerades as music these days, the Castleknock School of Music end of year extravaganza allayed any doubts we might have had that music is alive and well in Dublin 15.

Building the tree of life: The Per Cent for Art scheme launched by Minister for Arts John O’Donoghue in 2004 has been responsible for many public works of art that now embellish our landscape. Under the project, any new capital building project is entitled to apply for funding – based on a percentage of the total cost of the project – to create a public work of art to enhance the building.
