Issue No 120
Aug 28th - Sept 11th 2008

The community spirit: Many months of planning and hard work came to fruition recently with the official launch of a double-sided mural adorning the boundary between the Sheepmoor and Fortlawn estates.

Filling the walls: The Arts pages of this paper are generally filled with shows and performances and exhibitions and highlight people who are trying to bring a soupcon of culture into the often workaday lives of Dublin 15 inhabitants.
Art in the park: There are many who say that September is the best month to visit the Phoenix Park. The crowds have gone home, yet the weather can still be relatively mild and, occasionally dry and of course nature’s rich pageant of colour is getting under way.
All about Margaret: When we caught up with Margaret Farrell again, she was sitting on a beach near Bushmills in Antrim, painting a series of exciting new shoreline scenes.

Hey, Get a life!: Lovers of musical theatre who might at a bit of a loose end at the moment with the closure of Draiocht might do well to look to the Axis Theatre in Ballymun for an evening’s entertainment.

Sure and Stedfast: Despite the inclement weather, one of the highlights of the summer for many people is to bask in the picturesque surroundings of Farmleigh on a Sunday afternoon and listen to the lilting sound of the brass band on the bandstand.

Working behind the scenes: The doors may be closed while refurbishments are taking place but work continues apace at Draíocht. The new season is being finalised, acts are being booked and the outreach programme, under the stewardship of children & youth arts officer, Anne O’Gorman, has been doing some excellent work with the children of St. Vincent’s School on the Navan Road.

Young musicians sought for orchestra: Can you play a musical instrument? Are you receiving regular musical tuition in that instrument? If so, then the Fingal County Youth Orchestra is looking for you.
